On Sunday, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two individuals shoplifting at a store in Nathan Plaza in Bridgeport. Law enforcement personnel initiated contact with the two suspects, 38-year-old Molly Schlegel of Postville, Iowa, and 39-year-old Nathan Bantz of Elgin, Iowa. Law enforcement personnel discovered methamphetamine in Schlegel’s purse and hypodermic needles containing residual methamphetamine and marijuana on Bantz person. Prairie du Chien Police Department K9 Phoenix alerted to the presence of controlled substances in the suspects’ vehicle. Methamphetamine smoking devices, plastic baggies, and a digital scale were discovered, as well as additional stolen merchandise from another local store. Schlegel was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and retail theft – party to a crime. Bantz was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine – party to a crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana 2nd offense, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, retail theft, and resisting.
