The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office honored a detective on Tuesday for his work on solving a cold case that stretched more than six decades. In March, Sauk County detective Isaac Hanson was assigned a missing person’s case involving Audrey Backeberg. The case was originally reported to the sheriff’s office in 1962. During the investigation, evidence showed that she disappeared by her own choice and not the result of any criminal activity or foul play. After searching public and law enforcement records, Detective Hanson found Backeberg’s new last name and current address in Kentucky. Hansen said it’s important to not give up on these cases because they help families find closure. Since police found Backeberg, she has been in contact with some of her family in Wisconsin.
