Representative Derrick Van Orden is threatening to pull federal funding from Mayo Clinic after an employee allegedly made offensive comments following the murder of Charlie Kirk. Van Orden said on an X post last week that “We’re gonna work to remove all federal funding from the entire MAYO system until this is dealt with properly.” This, after an account posted screenshots of comments from someone who shamed others for honoring Kirk’s life, including a comment mocking Kirk’s wife, Erika. Van Orden’s post was sharing another post that included screenshots of the accused employee saying, “Academy Award nomination for best actress in a faux Christian role.” In the same post, a screenshot of the man’s LinkedIn page shows his Mayo Clinic employment. Mayo Clinic says they are aware of recent social media activity regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk and they unequivocally condemns violence of any kind and hold employees to clear standards of respectful and professional conduct.
