The Wisconsin Department of Transportation released new plans regarding County K and Highway 18/151 to WMTV on Monday. A DOT spokesperson says work is anticipated to begin this fall. Construction will be done by the Iowa County Highway Department to install a permanent center median, add right turn access from southbound County K and add a cul-de-sac to northbound County K. Iowa County Sheriff Michael Peterson says the temporary blockages that were installed in May to prevent traffic from turning on and off the intersection are working, but there is still work to be done, including work in the Village of Barneveld, which has seen increased traffic since the intersection was closed. He also said he would prefer the intersection stay fully closed permanently, rather than opening turn lanes. But, he says, limiting vehicles from crossing the median is going to help continue to prevent crashes.
