Authorities in Dubuque report a violent home invasion early Saturday morning. 35-year-old Corey M. Ary barricaded himself inside a residence on Boleyn Road with a woman and stabbed a sheriff’s deputy during the standoff. Deputies arrived just after 7 a.m. to find Ary inside the home. He refused to negotiate and only agreed to release the woman if he could leave free of arrest. When officers tried to enter, Ary stabbed Deputy Luke Pothoff in the forearm. Deputy Pothoff was treated at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center. Law enforcement used a Taser to apprehend Ary. The woman told deputies Ary had assaulted her two days earlier, holding a knife to her throat. She had visible bruises and a puncture wound. Ary faces numerous charges including burglary, assault, kidnapping, drug possession, and fleeing from a high-speed police chase in August where he drove recklessly at over 100 miles per hour.
