Organizers have scheduled a pair of flights next year to take military veterans on a daylong visit to memorials in to Washington, D.C. Honor Flight of Dubuque and the Tri-States announced it is planning flights on May 11 and 12. A press release states that the trip is open to all veterans who served in 1975 and prior, with priority given to veterans of World War II, followed by those who served in the Korean War, Cold War and Vietnam War. Terminally ill veterans from any war will be given top priority. The cost of the trip is about $700 per person, but local veterans are taken on the flights for free thanks to community donations. Volunteer chaperones, known as “guardians,” travel with veterans requiring assistance. These volunteers will be asked to contribute $500 to cover their trip expenses.
