A popular Dubuque bar and club went up for sale Monday, with plans to close its doors at the end of the year. Smokestack owners Scott Cornwell and Susan Price said there are a number of factors in their decision to sell the property, but also that they are completely satisfied with the performance of their staff and managers. The venue is listed as a turnkey sale, meaning the venue is fully prepared to continue operation should a new owner choose. Price and Cornwell said that they hope a new owner will continue the operation as it was, a safe space for all identities, but also that they will likely sell no matter what. The pair hopes to fund their return to New York with the proceeds. Whatever the case, Smokestack is set to close after New Year’s Eve. In the meantime, Price and Cornwell are preparing a number of special events to celebrate the end of an era.
