State regulators on Tuesday voted unanimously to suspend the license of the lead veterinarian at Ridglan Farms. Richard Van Domelen delegated procedures like “cherry eye” removal surgeries to staff without proper licenses, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Veterinary Examining Board found. The board previously voted in March to not suspend Van Domelen’s license, however board members did adopt a stipulated agreement that restricted his practice during the investigation. The beagle breeder, located in the Town of Blue Mounds, has faced increased scrutiny in recent years following accusations of animal cruelty.
