Alliant Energy announced the successful integration of its first 100-megawatt Battery Energy Storage System or BESS in Grant County, enhancing energy storage capabilities. The newly operational battery stores solar energy, among other resources, and releases it to the grid as needed. The battery is located next to the company’s Grant County Solar Project, which features a 200 MW solar array capable of generating enough electricity to power more than 50,000 homes. According to Alliant Energy, excess electricity is stored by the battery and is released when demand is low. BESS is part of Alliant Energy’s strategy for energy storage infrastructure, reducing the need for traditional power grid updates and ensuring preparedness for outages and severe weather.
