Former Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Ben Wikler announced Thursday that he will not run to be the state’s next governor. There had been some speculation surrounding whether Wikler would enter the race after he stepped down as chair earlier this year. He would have entered an increasingly crowded primary field that has yet to produce a true frontrunner. Wikler also said he would be working with Gov. Tony Evers and new Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Devin Remiker to support the party’s Governor Readiness Project. The initiative, which was announced last month, is set to leverage the state party’s resources and fundraising efforts to support the winner of the Democratic primary for governor.
