The Jo Daviess County Courthouse is opening next week following a nearly $18 million facelift. The courthouse has been under renovations since the spring of 2024 to reconfigure its interior and enhance security measures. It will reopen to the public on Monday, Oct. 27. Total project costs for the renovation came in at about $17.9 million. Due to the renovation less parking is available, but the county is working with the city of Galena for a parking facility just across the road from the courthouse. Galena’s police station is currently housed at that address, but city officials seek to relocate it due to structural and engineering issues. Once the police department moves, the city tentatively plans to raze the building and construct a two-story parking structure that could serve both the city and county and provide parking for visitors and employees at the courthouse.
