The Cuba City School District now has a mascot after several months of school board and community discussion. The school board made it official last week, unanimously approving the purchase of a costume for Captain Cuban. In the spring, about 300 teachers, students and parents responded to a survey on the subject, expressing a desire to keep the “Cubans” name and the school’s black and yellow color scheme. However, survey respondents also expressed a desire for enhanced visual identity and school spirit, hence the mission to create logos and a mascot. At last week’s meeting, the board approved the purchase of a mascot costume, which is a superhero in a black and yellow suit holding a shield with one of the district logos.
