One person is dead following a UTV accident in Lafayette County. Shortly after 9 PM on Friday, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a UTV crash on private property, on Highway 11 in Gratiot. Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Gratiot First Response and Fire Department, as well as Green County EMS and Lafayette County EMS responded. UW Medflight was requested and due to the severity of the crash, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wardens took over the investigation of the crash. A UTV operated by 57-year-old Ronald F. Ray of Gratiot overturned while being operated at that residence. Ronald Ray was transported by ambulance to the Monroe hospital for his injuries and 60-year-old Lisa A. McCaughey of Lawrence KS, a passenger in the UTV, was flown by UW Medflight to UW Hospital in Madison with life threatening injuries. Saturday morning, the sheriff’s department was notified of McCaughey died from injuries sustained in the crash. Two other passengers reported minor injuries and were not transported. Alcohol, and careless operation appear to be contributing factors to the crash. This incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, with the assistance of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
