On Thursday, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash on Highway 60 near Vet Lane. 47-year-old Christopher Gardner of Merrill was driving westbound on Highway 60 and attempted to pass highway department personnel mowing along the highway. Gardner collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle driven by 72-year-old Merlin Fritz of Boscobel. Fritz and a passenger from Gardner’s vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gardner was cited for operating a motor vehicle left of center causing injury. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Crawford County Highway Department, Bridgeport Fire Department, Bridgeport First Responders, and Gundersen Ambulance Service.
