The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wants to remind the public to check fire danger prior to conducting outdoor burning activities, as the fall fire season is underway. More than 50 wildfires have occurred in October thus far, burning approximately 20 acres. These fires, despite being small in size, were mostly caused by people and are preventable, according to the DNR. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows that most of Wisconsin has been experiencing abnormally dry conditions, while some areas are in a moderate drought. This comes after the state has been missing out on some typical September and early October rainfall. The DNR recommends avoiding conducting any debris burning until the ground is completely snow-covered.
