A man was arrested 17 days after he was released from state prison for sexual assault in the second degree, according to a release from Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson. 43-year-old Jerry Michael Campbell was arrested Friday afternoon after he allegedly had sexual contact or intercourse with an endangered adult who was reported missing on November 3. The missing person was located on November 6 by Vernon County Sheriffs and taken to a safe location. Campbell was arrested on Friday and booked for Sexual Assault in the second degree, a Class C felony, for having sexual contact or sexual intercourse with a person who suffers from a mental illness or deficiency which renders that person temporarily or permanently incapable of appraising the person’s conduct, and the defendant knows of such condition.
