The American Red Cross of Wisconsin released a statement this week thanking their volunteers and calling for extra support amid the large number of home fires they see during the holiday season. The organization said that they extend their “deepest thanks to all the volunteers who have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to strengthening our community throughout the year.” American Red Cross also stressed the need for volunteers to help with the rise in home fires. As the temperature cools and the holidays approach, the Red Cross said it sees an increase in home fires. One in five people that are assisted by the organization after a home fire receive that help during the holiday season. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer with the Red Cross. Free, flexible training is available online and opportunities range from short-term disaster assignments to long-term leadership roles. For more information visit Red Cross of Wisconsin’s website.
