Shortly after 7 AM on Sunday, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a semi-truck in Mt. Ida, on Highway 18, between County K north and County K south. 54-year-old Jeffery Smethurst of Prairie du Chien was driving a semi-tractor eastbound, pulling a loaded hopper trailer and stopped behind a school bus that was picking up kids when 18-year-old Janice High of Mt. Hope crashed into the rear of Smethurst’s semi-trailer. High told officers she did not see the truck stopped for the bus, due to the glare from the sun. High was cited for Inattentive Driving. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Fennimore EMS and Fennimore Fire Department.
