Newly crowned CMA Male Vocalist of the Year Cody Johnson has achieved his highest ever debut on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, landing at No. 2 with his cover of The Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier.” The track’s surge to the tally’s top tier was fueled by 11.9 million U.S. streams, 1.3 million radio audience impressions, and 5,000 sales from November 7–13. The track also debuted at No. 1 on both Country Streaming Songs and Country Digital Song Sales charts, marking Johnson’s second and fourth chart-toppers in those categories. Originally written by Bruce Robison and a longtime favorite in Johnson’s live shows, the studio version was released ahead of Veterans Day in response to fan demand. The Chicks’ version of the song previously topped Hot Country Songs for one week in 2003, marking their sixth and most recent No. 1 hit. (Billboard)
