Chestnut Mountain and Sundown Mountain opening this weekend

Two area ski resorts plan to open for the season this weekend. Sundown Mountain Resort is scheduled to open Friday, Dec. 5, with operating hours from 3 to 9 p.m., according to a press release. The resort will begin regular operating hours on Saturday, Dec. 6, until Dec. 20, when extended holiday hours will be in effect. Chestnut Mountain Resort announced on its website that the ski facility outside Galena, Ill., will open Saturday, Dec. 6.
