Attorney General Josh Kaul announced that Wisconsin, alongside 21 other state or county law enforcement agencies, has joined a lawsuit against Uber Technologies, LLC and Uber USA, LLC. The lawsuit alleges that Uber engaged in deceptive practices with its Uber One subscription service. It claims Uber used negative option marketing tactics, misleading consumers about potential savings and complicating the cancellation process. Additionally, it alleges Uber charged consumers before their billing date, even during free trials. The lawsuit, which was initially filed by the Federal Trade Commission, is set to go to trial in February 2027 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit seeks restitution, penalties, costs, and an injunction against Uber for alleged violations of Wisconsin’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the U.S. Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act.
