The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Wednesday that Menards has settled with multiple states for $4.25 million. The settlement was secured in part by Attorney General Josh Kaul and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), who claimed Menards deceptively marketed its merchandise credit check program—the “Menards 11% Rebate Program”—and engaged in price gouging during the COVID-19 pandemic. Menards will pay Wisconsin over $750 thousand as part of the full $4.25 million multistate settlement. As part of the settlement, Menards must now give customer one year from the date of purchase to submit a rebate claim.
