Gov. Tony Evers on Monday signed an executive order extending an energy emergency declaration in the state, citing continued pipeline disruptions. Evers first declared an energy emergency on Dec. 5, citing a disruption in the Midwestern pipeline distribution system as well as increased demand for heating fuel. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin’s Office of Energy Innovation reported that multiple energy suppliers are still dealing with distribution challenges. Declaring an energy emergency allows Evers to waive some state and federal hours of service limits as well as weight limits, giving suppliers a better chance of accounting for pipeline issues and weather-related delays. Evers’ first declaration was set to run through Jan. 2. Now, the declaration will run through Jan. 16.
