Ridglan Farms has reached out to state and federal law enforcement in hopes of preventing a potential mass theft of animals from its facility. In a press release, Ridglan Farms said an activist posted online about plans to take the animals, including organizing volunteers for the operation. Ridglan Farms is one of only two large breeders of dogs for experimentation in the country. Over 2,000 beagles are housed at Ridglan Farms, according to previous state inspection counts. In February 2025, a special prosecutor was appointed to investigate claims of animal cruelty at the facility. In October 2025, the company said it agreed to cease breeding research animals for sale on or before July 1, 2026, but would remain open, maintaining the ability to continue research. Ridglan Farms said the activist has recruited over 100 people to participate in the theft.
