A Lancaster man charged in a homicide in Prairie du Chien has pleaded no contest. Jessie Slaughter is charged in the October 2024 death of 65-year-old Daniel Welsch. Welsch was found dead inside a home on East Wisconsin Street in Prairie du Chien and Slaughter was arrested the next day. Slaughter was originally charged with first-degree intentional homicide, but pleaded down to a lesser charge of first-degree reckless homicide. Court records show Slaughter will be sentenced in May.
