Crawford County couple charged with child abuse

A Crawford County couple has been arrested and charged for alleged child abuse. 38-year-old Casey F. Cano and 35-year-old Mary L. Cano are accused of engaging in physical abuse and neglect of six children at their home from January 2018 through April 2022. Prosecutors allege the abuse included frequent belt beatings, sometimes leaving welts and bleeding, as well as withholding food as punishment. Each are charged with six counts of repeated acts of physical abuse of a child causing bodily harm, six counts of neglect of a child causing bodily harm and one count of causing a child under 13 to view sexual activity.  The criminal complaints also shows that the children were removed from the home around April 2022 in connection with a separate case of sexual abuse involving a different child. The next court appearance for the couple has not yet been scheduled.
