Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing President Donald Trump to authorize another round of military strikes against Iran, even as diplomatic efforts continue to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
According to The Associated Press, two regional officials and another person familiar with the discussions said Netanyahu wants additional strikes after the November 3 U.S. midterm elections. The Israeli leader reportedly raised the issue during a weekend phone call with Trump, who made no commitment to further military action.
Meanwhile, negotiations involving regional mediators have shown progress. Discussions center on a potential agreement that would require Iran to stop attacks in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the United States lifting its blockade of Iranian ports.
