Bob Mackie spent more than five decades turning stage costumes into unforgettable pieces of pop culture. Following the designer’s death on September 14 at age 87, attention has returned to the sparkling, theatrical looks he created for some of music’s biggest names.
His team announced his death in a statement, celebrating a career built around fashion and costume design. Mackie became especially known for sequins, feathers, rhinestones and dramatic silhouettes that looked at home under bright stage lights.
Cher was one of his most famous collaborators, wearing his creations at concerts, award shows and major public appearances. His work also appeared on Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Elton John, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus and Pink.
