The East Dubuque Police Department is looking to create a K-9 unit, which will require $80,000 to $110,000 to purchase and train a dog and obtain necessary equipment such as a special squad car. Jake Peacock, a police officer with the department, is leading the fund raising effort, saying the city’s unique location would make a dog’s detection and defense skills a valuable asset to the community. Anyone wishing to donate to the East Dubuque K-9 unit can do so by mailing a check to the East Dubuque Police Department with the mailing address City of East Dubuque, 261 Sinsinawa Ave., East Dubuque, IL 61028.
