‘It’s just kind of about a philosophy’: Aaron Rodgers speaks out on conflict with Packers management

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The reigning NFL MVP has spoken. Aaron Rodgers, in an interview on ESPN Monday night, spoke publicly for the first time on his issues with the Green Bay Packers organization.

“Sometimes people forget what really makes an organization. History is important. The legacy of so many people who’ve come before you, but the people — that’s the most important thing,” Rodgers said. “People make an organization. People make a business, and sometimes that gets forgotten.”

Late last month, reports swirled about Rodgers’ dissatisfaction with the Packers organization, believed in part to be caused by management’s decision to draft Jordan Love. Rodgers, though, said his issue is more about the big picture than anything else.

“It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go,” Rodgers said. “It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”

On Monday, Rodgers didn’t show up to the Packers’ optional team activities. While it’s not uncommon for veteran players to not attend those activities, Rodgers has made it a point throughout his career to participate. Until now.

While his frustrations with the organization’s front office are apparent, Rodgers had nothing but praise for nearly everyone else he’s worked with.

“I love Jordan; he’s a great kid. [We’ve had] a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay,” Rodgers said. “An incredible 16 years.”

Packers Head Coach Matt LeFleur has spoken up saying he wants Rodgers back “in the worst way.” Meanwhile, general manager Brian Gutekunst has said he and the team are fully committed to bringing Rodgers back for “2021 and beyond.”
