Southwest Wisconsin legislators are pushing a bill forward that would fund a study to construct a bridge over the Mississippi River at Cassville. State Senator Howard Marklein has introduced a bill that directs the Department of Transportation to conduct a feasibility study for the project. The bill has co-sponsorship from State Representatives Travis Tranel and Todd Novak, along with other legislators. Marklein’s bill would cap the study’s funding at $1-million dollars and the state of Wisconsin would be responsible for 50-percent of the total cost. His legislation says the other 50-percent of the study’s cost would have to be covered by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Although the bill is getting support in the Wisconsin legislature, there is not as much of a push for the study in the Iowa legislature.
