A Prairie du Chien man has pled guilty to charges related to the death of a 3-year-old who died in July 2020. Reports show 30-year-old Chase Harville accepted a plea deal Tuesday in Crawford County Circuit Court. Harville pled guilty to a charge of 2nd-degree reckless homicide. He had been charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide – but the charge was amended under a plea deal. Also, with his deal, charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and battery were dismissed. Investigators say Harville was watching the 3-year-old at a Crawford County home while the mother was working. Harville admitted to picking the child up by his hair and throwing the boy towards a couch – but the child hit the floor. When the mother returned home from work, she found the child unresponsive. The boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be from blunt-force trauma. Harville is set to be sentenced in early October.
