A gas leak in Darlington led authorities to evacuate some residents for about 90 mins on Wednesday afternoon. In an update from Darlington Police Chief Jason King, emergency crews were called for the natural gas leak shortly before 2. Officials say construction workers accidentally struck the underground gas line at Washington and Mary Streets – causing a significant leak. Nearby residents were evacuated and streets in that area were closed until about 3:30. Alliant Energy staff stopped the leak and repaired the gas line. No injuries were reported.
