The top four teams as picked by the committee at the end of the year will participate in college football’s playoff to determine a National Champion.
While the Badgers are unlikely to make their way up into the top four spots by the end of the year, they do have their eyes on another potential appearance in the Big Ten championship game if they can win the Big Ten West division. The Badgers’ win over Iowa last Saturday helped set up that possibility.
The Hawkeyes were ranked right behind the Badgers at #22 following last weekend’s result. Other Big Ten teams in the College Football Playoff rankings include Minnesota at #20, Michigan at #7, Ohio State at #5, and Michigan State at #3.
Penn State, who beat Wisconsin to start the year but lost to former Badgers coach Bret Bielema and Illinois at home two weeks ago, did not make the Top 25.
The College Football Playoff rankings will be updated every week until the end of the college football season.
