A child is dead and two other people suffered severe injuries after a crash early Tuesday in northwest Illinois. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 10-year-old from Dubuque was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was ejected from a pick-up truck during a head-on crash with a semi between Stockton and Woodbine. Officials say the pick-up’s driver – 32-year-old Julius Jones of Dubuque – was on Highway 20 around 6:30a-m when his vehicle crossed into the opposite lane. The truck was cresting a hill when it collided with a semi-tractor trailer – being driven by 42-year-old Eric Federonich. Upon impact, the semi caught on fire – though Federonich was not hurt in the crash. Both the 10-year-old passenger and a 9-year-old passenger in Jones’ pick-up were thrown from the truck. The 9-year-old was air-lifted to a Rockford hospital and later transported to the Children’s Hospital in Madison. Jones was also air-lifted to a Rockford hospital for treatment. According to a sheriff’s report, Jones faces charges of driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license and improper lane usage.
