Helicopters Flying Over Southwest Wisconsin

Low-flying helicopters will appear over areas of southwest Wisconsin beginning this week during a federal agency’s study of groundwater. The U.S. Geological Survey will be conducting an electromagnetic survey measuring groundwater in rural areas. According to a release, helicopters will fly over areas with a large, octagon-shaped device to obtain information. Flights will occur over eight counties, including Grant, Iowa and Lafayette Counties and are expected to take 14-21 days depending on weather and flight conditions. The helicopter’s electromagnetic device will not harm plants, animals or humans, but may startle some farm animals.
