Lafayette County Supervisors have committed to purchasing two new tandem-axle trucks equipped with winter snow plow equipment for the county’s highway department. According to a report, the trucks are estimated to cost approximately $210,000 each. The county highway committee approved the purchase in January to avoid a 15% price increase on February 1st. However, the highway department said the trucks likely won’t be delivered until September 2023. It will then take another 200 days to install winter equipment, delaying the use of the vehicles until 2024. As a result, supervisors approved another resolution allowing the highway department to purchase a single-axle truck with winter equipment for less than $200,000 and another tandem-axle truck with winter equipment for more than $240,000. Estimated delivery of the single axle truck and chassis is this fall. The tandem-axle truck will ready for use by the highway department by spring 2023.
