On the last day of the World Championship Cheese Contest, a total of 7 entries from Wisconsin made the final 20 – including a few from this area. Among the Wisconsin cheese-makers in the running for the title were Roelli Cheese in Shullsburg, Emmi Roth in Monroe and Hidden Springs Creamery in Westby. However, the judges on Thursday in Madison awarded the top prize to a dairy operation from Switzerland. The World Championship Cheese Contest was first held in 1957 and is considered the largest cheese competition in the world.
