Officials across Wisconsin are weighing in about an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday evening in Kenosha. A video shows an officer shooting Jacob Blake in the back multiple times while Blake was reaching into a vehicle. State Representative Travis Tranel (R-Cuba City) released the following statement Monday evening.

“Certainly the video looks horrific, but there are so many details we don’t know yet. We ask these officers to make life and death decisions instantaneously. We need to let the independent investigation run its course. If the suspect was reaching for a weapon then the shooting may have been justifiable. If the investigation shows that the shooting was not justifiable then I believe my colleagues and I would support prosecuting the officer to the fullest extent of the law. Regardless of the outcome, burning down buildings and destroying personal property is not an acceptable response to the situation.”
