Torchio has been a star for the Badgers’ secondary this season, recording 5 interceptions including 2 returned for touchdowns. He’s also tallied 42 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a sack.
Torchio’s interceptions have proved game-changing on multiple occasions. His first one, which he returned 100 yards for a touchdown, set the tone in Wisconsin’s opening-day win over Illinois State. The two he recorded against Purdue turned the tide in what was a tightly contested game. He was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after the Purdue victory.

The senior safety faces stiff competition for the Bednarik Award from inside the Big Ten and out. Illinois has a pair of semifinalists and Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State each have semifinalists. Alabama also has a pair of semifinalists, Will Anderson Jr. and Kool-Aid McKinstry.
No Badger has ever won the Bednarik Award. The Maxwell Football Club began handing out the honor in 1995.
