Wisconsin veterans woke up extra early on Saturday to board the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington D.C. 94 veterans took off from La Crosse Airport to see memorials that were built in their honor. Some of them fought during the Korean era, while most fought in Vietnam. Over 2,400 veterans have flown on the freedom honor flight since it started in 2008. Each veteran goes with a guardian and are accompanied by medics. The trip is a whirlwind. It’s only a day long. Attendees return at night. Those flights are put on by a local chapter of the Honor Flight Network. That company brings veterans across the country to D.C. Donors gifted the Freedom Honor Flight $2,000 to keep the trips going.
