Rep. Mike Gallagher will not challenge incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin for her seat next year, opting instead to run for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Gallagher, who represents Wisconsin’s eighth Congressional district, announced his re-election campaign on Friday. He currently serves as the chair of the House Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Gallagher was first elected to the House of Representatives after a landslide victory over Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson in 2016. He was re-elected in 2018. After a third-straight landslide victory in last year’s election, Gallagher emerged as a possible candidate to run against Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. Baldwin was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 over Tommy Thompson and was re-elected in 2018 over State Sen. Leah Vukmir.
