Josh Brolin has declined an offer to star as Hal Jordan in Lanterns, a DC Studios series based on the Green Lantern superhero character. The role would have added to his comic book resume, having previously portrayed Thanos in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films. The casting search continues, with a focus on finding a younger, fresh-faced talent to play against an older, more established figure. Other rumored actors, such as Matthew McConaughey, have also been dismissed. The series’ storyline will explore a gritty True Detective vibe, with Hal Jordan reluctantly mentoring John Stewart, one of DC’s first Black superheroes, as they investigate an Earth-bound murder with broader implications. The show, helmed by showrunner Chris Mundy and co-writer Damon Lindelof, is set to shoot in Atlanta from January to June next year. (THR)
