The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and River Lights Bookstore joined forces to donate 2,700 books to Dubuque Community School District’s four Title 1 elementary schools: Lincoln, Audubon, Marshall and Prescott. Title 1 schools receive federal funds to assist students of low socioeconomic status. Each student at the four schools could select two books, and the library at each school also received 50 books to add to its collection. The book donation effort has taken place annually for several years and is part of the Community Foundation’s larger Every Child Reads initiative, a multi-county effort to improve students’ reading proficiency by the end of third grade.
