Sen. Tammy Baldwin joined a group of Senate Democrats in a letter on Thursday urging Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to reverse cuts to the Affordable Care Act Navigator program. The program helps connect people with the health insurance that fits their needs, including Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The program saw its funding cut by 84% during the first Trump Administration but it was restored in 2021 once then-President Joe Biden took office. Now, the Trump Administration wants to cut the program’s funding by almost 90%. The group pointed to a 2.5 million-person drop in ACA enrollment following the cuts during the first Trump Administration, as well as record enrollment during the Biden Administration, as reasoning for reversing the latest cut.
