Hundreds of people packed the Village of Belmont’s Community Building Saturday for a town hall meeting hosted by 2nd District Congressman, Mark Pocan. The building was filled to capacity with people even waiting outside and peaking through the windows to hear Rep. Pocan address what’s going on in Washington D.C. Pocan updated concerned citizens about changes in the current government, while also calling out 3rd District Congressman Derrick Van Orden (R) for not updating the public about what is happening at the U.S. Capitol. Rep. Pocan formally invited Rep. Van Orden earlier in the week to the Village of Belmont’s town hall, which borders Van Orden’s district jurisdiction. Rep. Van Orden declined to attend the event. Many people in the audience questioned whether Democrats could do more to have input on current changes in the government. But Pocan says that it is up to the people to advocate for themselves about changes happening in Congress. Pocan says he hopes to continue holding more of these town hall meetings in other districts with Republican representatives in the near future.
