An event celebrating local conservation efforts to restore the area’s bluebird population is planned in Jo Daviess County later this month. The Bluebird Celebration will take place at 9 a.m. March 29 at the Elizabeth Community Building. According to an online announcement, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation will discuss the history of the Bluebird Recovery Project, a volunteer group which has worked to bring back the local eastern bluebird population from the brink of extinction thirty years ago. The event will include a silent auction featuring bluebird-themed art and memorabilia. Attendees also can purchase bluebird nesting boxes for $35 each and learn from bluebird experts on how to install and care for the boxes, as well as how to submit bluebird observations on the Cornell NestWatch app. The event is free and open to the public, and RSVPs are not required.
