A Wisconsin man was sentenced to two years of probation for leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase in Grant County. Ali M. Hassan, of Stoughton, was sentenced after pleading no contest to charges of vehicle operator fleeing/eluding an officer, failure to install an ignition interlock device and operating with restricted controlled substance. As a part of a plea agreement approved by Grant County Circuit Judge Craig Day, charges of operating while revoked, illegal possession of a prescription medication and hit and run were dismissed. A Grant County Sheriff’s Department press release states that a Fennimore Police Department officer spotted a vehicle with heavy front-end damage weaving outside the lane of traffic at approximately 12:55 a.m. on July 21 on Lincoln Avenue in Fennimore. The officer attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle sped away from the scene, traveling as fast as 96 mph in a 35-mph zone in Fennimore. The Fennimore officer terminated the pursuit. The fleeing vehicle rear-ended another vehicle on the north side of Fennimore. Hassan eventually stopped his vehicle in Lancaster and was taken into custody, the release states.
