Viroqua woman arrested for sexual assault of an inmate

A food service worker is accused of sexually assaulting an inmate at the Vernon County jail. On Friday, Sheriff Roy Torgerson announced the arrest of 32-year-old Amanda Ann Bjornstad of Viroqua. Bjornstad allegedly had sexual contact with an inmate at the Vernon County Detention Center, where she worked as a member of the food service vendor in the jail kitchen. Bjornstad was arrested for second degree sexual assault and threats to injure or accuse of crime. She’s also being held for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections stemming from a Richland County conviction in which she’s serving time on electronic monitoring. Bjornstad is not a Vernon County employee. The state jail inspector has been informed of the incident.
