A new champion has flown its way into becoming this year’s Wisconsin Fat Bird Week winner. The “Spherical White-throated Sparrow” garnered 72% of votes in the final round while its opponent, the “Rotund Ruby-throated Hummingbird,” received 28% of votes. From May 2-9, people were invited to vote daily for their favorite bulbous bird. This contest is similar to March Madness, but for Wisconsin’s native birds. The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin and SOS Save Our Songbirds hosted this event, sharing fun facts about native birds in Wisconsin.
